Painting Class - Frequently Asked Questions
Our Make It and Take It Painting Classes are well under way and everyone is having a blast! We've created this page to answer the most frequently asked questions we get from our customers interested in participating in the classes.
How can I register for classes?
You may reserve your spot for any of our scheduled classes by visiting the CALENDAR page. We require a credit card number at the time of registration to reserve your spot. Your credit card is used to guarantee your class reservation. Payments are made the night of the class. Your credit card will not be charged unless you do not cancel within the 24 hour period or you do not show up for class. No shows will be charged the regular class fee. You may call us at (256) 739-9702 to book a private class or party.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Master Card and American Express. We also accept checks or cash. We do require a credit card at the time of registration to hold your spot. If you would like to pay by check or cash you may do so the night of the class. We do not run the credit card charges before class, should you choose to pay by a different method that night we simply will not process your credit card.
What happens if I have registered for a class but need to cancel?
You may cancel reservations 24 hours prior to your scheduled class. Cancellations after that time period as well as no shows will be charged the full class fee. We purchase supplies based on reservations. We also have a limited number of seats available for each class and often have to turn folks away from sold out classes.
Cancellations for private classes/parties must be made 7 days prior to the scheduled class.
Can I schedule a private class or party?
Yes, we love to host private events! You must have a minimum of 10 people to schedule a private class Monday - Thursday and a minimum of 20 to schedule a private event Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Please call us at (256) 739-9702 for available dates.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of people per class?
We require a minimum of 10 participants for each class and currently can accommodate 24 per class. We are in the process of expanding and hope to have more seats available in the near future.
Do you ever have to cancel a class and if so, will I be notified if I am registered for that class?
If we have less than 10 people for any given class we reserve the right to cancel that class. In the event that your class is canceled we will notify you via e-mail the day before and give you the option to reschedule.
What happens if I've paid in advance for a canceled class?
If you have paid in advance for a class that must be canceled you will receive a full refund or you can reschedule and apply your payment towards a future class.
I've heard about/been to a Sips N Strokes class in another city? Is this class similar?
Yes, this class follows a similar concept and is designed to be a fun outing for all participants.
Can I bring beverages or food with me to class?
Yes, you can bring whatever beverage you would like to drink as well as food or snack items. We want you to be able to relax, get your creative juices flowing, and have a fun time. We do not serve food or beverages but do provide cups and bottle openers.
What are the age requirements?
White our paintings are designed and appropriate for all ages the after-hours atmosphere is most appropriate for individuals aged 18 and over. Teens with a mature attitude are not discouraged from participating but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Of course, you must be at least 21 years of age to bring or consume any alcoholic beverages.
Do you ever offer children's classes?
Absolutely! We love to do classes for children. Occasionally we will schedule a children's class or a Mom and Me class. You can also schedule a private children's class. Our painting classes are great options for birthday parties.
I'm not artistic and have never had art lessons and am not sure I can finish a painting. Are the paintings hard?
Not at all! We choose paintings that are fun and open to your own artistic interpretation. No two paintings will look exactly alike. This is not a serious art class but a fun adventure that will allow you to express yourself through painting. The instruction will lead you through step by step. Paintings that are a bit more difficult will be pre-sketched for you so that all you have to do is paint! If you can hold a paintbrush you can do this class!
How long will it take to finish a painting and will I be able to take it home that night?
Our classes are two to three hours long. You will be able to complete your painting during the class and take it home with you that night.
What size are the paintings?
Unless noted otherwise all paintings are done on a 16" x 20" canvas.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever is comfortable for you. We currently do not offer smocks so you may want to bring your own smock, apron or old shirt if you are concerned about protecting your clothing.
How do I know when the classes are and what painting you will be doing?
Scheduled classes are posted on the Calendar page. You may view the paintings and register for classes from that page. We host open classes most Friday and Saturday nights and are available for private parties most any night.
I missed a painting that I really wanted to do. Do you repeat paintings?
Yes, we do repeat paintings that are popular and highly requested. Since we want you to have fun and go home with a painting that you would be proud to display in your home we do take requests for specific paintings into consideration. Call or e-mail and let us know what your favorites are or what you would like to see us offer.
How much does a class cost?
Most classes cost $35 per person which includes supplies. Please see our Class Pricing Page for price details.
Who instructs the classes?
Currently all classes are instructed by Karen McCluskey, owner of The Candle Garden. Karen has been an artist for 25 years and a self-taught freehand artist.
